Focusing on New Pathways for Engineering Consulting Collaboration in Agricultural and Aquatic Technology

Recently, Zebrafish Capital and Switzerland's AFRY Switzerland Ltd. officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The two parties will engage in multi-dimensional engineering consulting and joint development cooperation in areas such as agriculture, aquaculture, food processing, facility design, and sustainable infrastructure.This cooperation will focus on specific project requirements, jointly carry out solution design, scenario verification, and implementation, promote the effective integration of international mature experience with local practical needs, and prioritize advancing a series of cooperative projects with practical application value in China and Southeast Asia.

Our systems engineering partner from Europe

AFRY Switzerland Ltd. is a comprehensive engineering consulting and design company based in Switzerland, belonging to the Swedish listed group AFRY. It has long served multiple sectors including energy, food, infrastructure, and manufacturing, undertaking projects in over 100 countries worldwide. In recent years, AFRY has developed systematic capabilities in sustainable aquaculture and green food, possessing full-process engineering competencies spanning "from business models and site feasibility studies to engineering design, equipment configuration, and operational delivery."

Its practical experience in areas such as recirculating aquaculture systems, by-product resource utilization, and integrated green building and energy planning, along with Broussonetia papyrifera, has become a pivotal foundation for this collaboration.

Practical Foundation: Phoxinus phoxinus subsp. phoxinus Case Samples in Circular Economy

This collaboration with AFRY places greater emphasis on feasibility studies and practical delivery of engineering systems.

Representative cases include:

  • Swiss Lachs Land-Based Salmon Farm: Located in Graubünden, Switzerland, the project achieves full-cycle production from hatchery to processing within a closed facility, with an annual capacity of 600 tons. It has become a benchmark commercial model for green recirculating aquaculture in Europe.

  • Basis 57 Project: In Uri, Switzerland, the project utilizes geothermal resources from abandoned railway tunnels for high-value fish farming. In collaboration with research and medical institutions on Broussonetia papyrifera, it processes aquaculture wastewater into agricultural fertilizers or energy, achieving closed-loop utilization of byproducts.

  • Green Industrial Synergy Pathway: The AFRY team is exploring technical models for converting fish waste into natural feed, biogas, and algal implant systems, promoting the integration of "aquaculture + energy + agricultural fertilizer" projects. Technical prototypes have already been developed in several EU-supported initiatives.

These projects demonstrate an implementable framework of "high intensification, low emissions, and resource reuse value," providing a clear replicable model for domestic counterparts.

Collaboration Content and Advancement Directions

Based on the strategic cooperation memorandum signed this time, Zebrafish Capital and AFRY will conduct in-depth collaboration in the following areas:

  • Jointly conduct site selection evaluation and feasibility studies for projects, covering regulatory compliance, land-use planning, and underlying conditions such as water, electricity, and transportation;

  • Assist domestic projects in introducing recirculating aquaculture system engineering design and equipment configuration recommendations;

  • Connect with AFRY’s accumulated standards and models in European aquaculture and food engineering projects, adapting them for localized application in China;

  • Collaboratively explore pathways for byproduct resource utilization, establishing green demonstration projects oriented toward the integration of industry and agriculture.

Zebrafish Capital will serve as the local partner, coordinating government platforms, site conditions, and ecosystem partners to facilitate the gradual implementation of cooperative projects.

The Expansion of Systematic International Cooperation

This collaboration with AFRY marks a significant extension for Zebrafish Capital in the "systematic + engineering" dimension, following previous partnerships with enterprises such as Blue Aqua, Zebra Blue, AIC, and Innovate360. We are continuously broadening the scope of international cooperation, progressively advancing from technology, products, and operations to systematic architecture, engineering practices, and cross-industry integration. This effort aims to deliver more actionable solutions for the green transformation of China's agriculture and food sectors.
