Guangdong, China’s aquaculture powerhouse, welcomed the Zebrafish Capital team for a high-level visit aimed at deepening collaboration and unlocking cross-border opportunities in sustainable seafood production. As the largest aquaculture province in China and a key supplier to Hong Kong and global markets, Guangdong offers unmatched expertise, scale, and innovation — making it a natural partner for Zebrafish’s regional ecosystem-building efforts.

Strategic Engagements with Industry Leaders

The Zebrafish delegation met with the President and Secretary-General of the Guangdong Fisheries Association, engaging in a spirited exchange around the motto: “World fisheries look to China, and Chinese fisheries look to Guangdong.” With decades of “供港” (Hong Kong supply) experience, the Association’s leadership shared insights on regulatory alignment, quality assurance, and logistics — laying the groundwork for future cross-border pilots and joint branding initiatives.

R&D Synergy with the Pearl River Fisheries Institute

At the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences’ Pearl River Institute, the team explored collaborative research and platform development across five provinces in the Pearl River Basin. Discussions centered on:

•  Joint incubation of tropical aquaculture models

•  Technology transfer for indoor and modular farming systems

•  Base-building for international demonstration zones

This visit reinforced Zebrafish’s commitment to integrating science, policy, and commercialization across borders.

Scaling with Guangdong Xinlanlong: A Full-Chain Success Story

Zebrafish also visited Guangdong Xinlanlong Company, a rising star in the aquaculture sector that has successfully built a vertically integrated supply chain — from seedling to shipment. Currently in full expansion mode, Xinlanlong faces overwhelming demand and is actively seeking strategic partners to enter overseas markets. Zebrafish’s modular collaboration model and branding expertise offer a timely solution to scale sustainably while preserving quality and traceability.

Unlocking Global Channels for Giant River Prawn

The final leg of the visit brought the team to Guangdong’s largest Macrobrachium rosenbergii (giant river prawn) base. With seedlings sourced from Zhejiang and a supply chain geared toward premium outlets like Hema (盒马), the base operates on an order-based farming model. Stakeholders expressed strong interest in expanding into international channels — a goal Zebrafish is well-positioned to support through its trusted network, diplomatic engagement, and cross-cultural branding.
